Dayton, Ohio

Over spring break FG went to visit his relatives in Dayton, Ohio! He went to work with my cousin one day and was able to “touch a truck”. As you can see in the photos he saw fire trucks, construction equipment and even rode a motorcycle. After his exciting time there, he was too tired to take a spin in the race car.
He rested up as he came home and then quickly went back to school to see all his flat friends!
Thanks to everyone for hosting FG!

Flat Garrett’s next big adventure took him across the Atlantic Ocean to the European countries of Belgium, Spain and Germany!
Unfortunately the trip got off to a rocky start. FGarrett and I missed our flight to Brussels (our first destination) which meant spending the night in a hotel in New York City and flying to Atlanta the next day to try again. FGarrett made the best of things and caught up on Olympic coverage before breakfast and a shuttle ride to the airport:
A few hours later, FGarrett was in Atlanta and very happy to see that our flight to Brussels was on time!
After a quick flight from Brussels to Barcelona, FGarrett got to check out the sites in Spain! First up was La Sagrada Familia, a church designed by Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi:
FGarrett got to stay right on Las Ramblas, one of Barcelona’s most popular and lively streets. He loved sitting on the balcony and watching the costumed street performers!
Next he rode a gondola up the hill to Montjuic Castle and got to enjoy a fantastic view of the whole city:
The view was even better from the very top of the castle:
FGarrett also got to enjoy some traditional Spanish cuisine, like yummy chicken paella:
After Spain it was back to Brussels, Belgium. Here’s FGarrett enjoying with a great view of the city (it makes him look small, but he’s there to the left!):
And no trip to Belgium would be complete without sampling the famous pommes frites, Belgium’s delicious version of french fries served with lots of yummy sauces:
Next up was a day trip to Cologne, Germany via the bullet train:
Cologne is right on the Rhine River and FGarrett took in the sites of the city from the bridge:
Last but not least, FGarrett visited the famous Cologne Cathedral, which was begun in 1218 and not finished until 1880. It is one of the largest churches in the world!
FGarrett loved his European trip and is rested and ready for his next adventure!

Flat G had to go to the office for a while and do some work. Lisa was kind enough to let him sit on the laptop so he could see better!
They rode the ferry at the Gulf Coast and saw the Spanish Moss hanging in trees.

Here are some photos and video of Flat G having a blast in New Orleans. He rode on a parade float, saw a few parades and had a grand time.

Flat G was quickly sent to New Orleans so he could participate in the Mardi Gras festivities AND a Super Bowl party! We’ve seen a few shots of him having fun and will post up soon. I know he had a blast.
Flat Garrett took a trip to Disney World in late January! He had such fun. He missed Disney Hollywood Studio but did make it to the Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Animal Kingdom. He rode Space Mountain, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, and plenty of other rides. Check out his photo gallery.
What is Flat Garrett (a/k/a Flat Stanley)?

2009
Flat Stanley is a really cute children’s book and it has taken off into the Flat Stanley project where every year school kids send out a Flat of themself and see how many places it can go.
Here’s the synopsis courtesy of Wikipedia:
Stanley Lambchop and his younger brother Arthur are given a big bulletin board by their Dad for putting pictures and posters on. He hangs it on the wall over Stanley’s bed, but during the night the board falls from the wall, flattening Stanley in his sleep. He survives and makes the best of his altered state, and soon he is entering locked rooms by sliding under the door, and playing with his younger brother by being used as a kite. Stanley even helps catch some art museum sneak thieves by posing as a painting on the wall. But one special advantage is that Flat Stanley can now visit his friends by being mailed in an envelope. Eventually Arthur, who tires of all the attention Stanley has been getting, reverts Stanley to his proper shape through an air pump used for footballs.
Flat Garrett begins his travels!

Flat Garrett has started his whirlwind tour! His first stop is Michigan. I think he will be heading to the Space Needle soon followed by a couple months of fun travel and a trip to Disney before he heads to Mardi Gras in February! I wonder if he’ll be able to catch a Cowboy Mouth show while he’s there or maybe visit Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop for a Voodoo Daiquiri. Hmmmm, maybe I need to join him in New Orleans!!
If Flat Garrett comes to visit you, please report back and post up some photos! (Or leave a comment and email me the photos to post)
