Flat Garrett’s next big adventure took him across the Atlantic Ocean to the European countries of Belgium, Spain and Germany!
Unfortunately the trip got off to a rocky start. FGarrett and I missed our flight to Brussels (our first destination) which meant spending the night in a hotel in New York City and flying to Atlanta the next day to try again. FGarrett made the best of things and caught up on Olympic coverage before breakfast and a shuttle ride to the airport:
A few hours later, FGarrett was in Atlanta and very happy to see that our flight to Brussels was on time!
After a quick flight from Brussels to Barcelona, FGarrett got to check out the sites in Spain! First up was La Sagrada Familia, a church designed by Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi:
FGarrett got to stay right on Las Ramblas, one of Barcelona’s most popular and lively streets. He loved sitting on the balcony and watching the costumed street performers!
Next he rode a gondola up the hill to Montjuic Castle and got to enjoy a fantastic view of the whole city:
The view was even better from the very top of the castle:
FGarrett also got to enjoy some traditional Spanish cuisine, like yummy chicken paella:
After Spain it was back to Brussels, Belgium. Here’s FGarrett enjoying with a great view of the city (it makes him look small, but he’s there to the left!):
And no trip to Belgium would be complete without sampling the famous pommes frites, Belgium’s delicious version of french fries served with lots of yummy sauces:
Next up was a day trip to Cologne, Germany via the bullet train:
Cologne is right on the Rhine River and FGarrett took in the sites of the city from the bridge:
Last but not least, FGarrett visited the famous Cologne Cathedral, which was begun in 1218 and not finished until 1880. It is one of the largest churches in the world!
FGarrett loved his European trip and is rested and ready for his next adventure!
